Day 5: Novena to the Holy Spirit - The Comforting Spirit As we continue our 9 Day Novena, today's prayer focuses on "The Comforting Spirit." In this prayer, we gratefully call upon the consoling, reassuring presence of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter sent by our loving Father. When our hearts are heavy with grief, sadness or disappointment, we invite the Holy Spirit's tender hand to wipe away our tears and soothe our fretful spirits with His abiding peace. We confess the times we have needlessly wallowed in sorrow instead of casting our cares upon the Spirit and receiving His solace. We thank Him for His steadfast compassion, patience and merciful comfort toward us. Like a warm parental embrace, we picture the Holy Spirit drawing us near, consoling us with His words of truth, affirmation and reassurance that we are never alone. He renews our strength, steadies our shaking frames, and carries our burdens alongside us. Not only do we welcome the Spirit's comfort for ourselves, but we ask Him to make us conduits of that same consolation toward others who are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit around us. We pray for His compassion to flow through us in kind words and a healing balm.
